Darjeeling First Flush 2020 Update
The year 2020 has been anything but ordinary for the entire humanity. In the Darjeeling tea gardens too the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic was strong. As the timeline of the lockdown coincided with the Darjeeling black tea first flush harvest, the consequence was a major loss of peak production.
Compared to the CTC and orthodox Assam tea, Darjeeling tea has always given lower yields accounting for only 2% of the total tea production in India. These teas are the most sought for their exquisite quality.
Under the global emergency brought by the corona virus, the spring harvest of Darjeeling tea completely collapsed. The only tea that we managed to procure was Arya Spring tea.
The Arya Spring China 1st flush was one of the very few Darjeeling first flush teas that was produced this year. Soon after, the gardens closed down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is an early first flush from AV2 clonal tea leaves produced in a limited quantity.
We are grateful and lucky that we got our hands on this and look forward to a better tea season next year.
